I have worked on esp8266 to make a walkie-talkie. That encompassed using the ADC at a high sampling rate (8kHZ) to record and use the wifi to transmit and on the other end use I2S to actuate the sound Relevant Skills and Experience Development experience using esp8266 entails above and much more. I recommend not using the arduino IDE to save on CPU and more importantly heap space because audio needs RAM !! Proposed Milestones $360 USD - I can discuss the milestones with you. I have many questions like what do you intend to use between esp8266 output and the speaker? An I2S DAC would be a good idea since the I2S in esp8266 is really nice! Though you need a lot of RAM for it. I am really interested in knowing more about your project as I am also working on the esp8266 walkie talkie, it connects to the nearby wifi and you can talk to other contacts on the device like through an intercom or record a message if they aren't nearby, and with esp8266 it can be made for 5$ !!
