"Project Actaeon" is a consumer website that will aggregate a number of online news items. Items will need to be updated manually daily via a simple CMS, usable by a team of non-technical editors, and subject to controls and passwords. Editing and deletions will be done by a subset of editors with administrative privileges. The site will need to be constructed using a mainstream, open-source CMS, for example Joomla or Drupal, and MySql. Actaeon will be hosted on our web servers.
Each news item published will relate to a specific event. Each event may relate to several items, and a single news item may relate to several events. Each event may also be described with a number of searchable tags. In future, we may be integrating an external XML feed into our data. While this integration is not needed right now, any initial data structure should reflect this external feed for ease of possible future use. A full spec will be supplied.
General users will be able to register, and will be able to flag their preferred types of news item, and customise their homepage to reflect their interests. Users will also be able to post comments under each news item / event.
