I'll give you a function which will take 2 strings as argument and will return the distance between these two places in Kms., and if it couldn't get the correct lat/long of one or both the locations entered in the passed string it will give some default value as expected by your requirement.

It took just a minute to write this up and I have the result already. If you choose me, you can get the result now. The input is entered as two strings like "Beijing, China" and "Mountain View, CA" and the result comes out in kilometres.
