To read Modbus energy meters, I designed and fabrcated a Modbus to MQTT gateway using Arduino Mega and Sim 900 module. I would like to propose same hardware for this project. Most of the IoT platforms accept MQTT, even you can have your own broker and collector. We can put everything into a IP67 enclosure. Solar panels, charge controller and battery will be external to this system. If you prefer to use an off the shelf product, i can find a suitable option too. I am happy to discuss details over chat. One of the usage of our product have planned on agriculture, so I designed similar system with WiFi based MCU. If you want get more info, please get in touch. I have already worked in projects that collects data from sensors and puts it to cloud. I am currently working in a project where a Silicon Labs BLE module collects air quality data and sends it to a BLE-Wifi Gateway. The Wifi gateway then send the data to amazon cloud.
