Hello,
A British native, an Oxford graduate in Modern Languages (German and French), and a frequent visitor to Germany and France for 50 years, I have spent most of my life teaching these languages and their cultural background at highly respected independent schools in England, where only the highest standards of English, French and German are expected.
When teaching I always took translation into English very seriously, emphasising the need to convey faithfully the different registers of academic, literary, journalistic or commercial styles. I lived in Germany for a year and have used commercial German and French in business, and taught both as well. As for accuracy in English, fortunately I was schooled in an age when grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation were taught and tested. I have prepared numerous pupils for entrance exams to Oxford and Cambridge, and have responded with pleasure to requests to proofread dissertations.
You may be confident that I will give you the full benefit of all my years of experience. Most days I should be able to manage 3 hours of translation, on many days rather more if required.
Kind regards,
Laurence
